Check out these 10 Cricut Projects for Beginners (1)

You probably just got a Cricut and your not sure where to start. You know this machine can do amazing things, but you just quite aren’t sure how. The Cricut can do more than just cut out fonts (this is what I thought with the original Cricut). Now that I know it can do so much more, I put together a list of 10 great beginner projects for you! Use these projects to get yourself started and learn more about your machine. Plus I’ve got a great Cricut Design Space quick reference sheet for you at the end of this post.

1. Decorate your own cards with Cricut Print Then Cut

Learn how to decorate your own greeting cards for thank you notes, holiday cards, or invitations. You can use the Print Then Cut feature to upload your own designs and attach them to the front of your cards. I made this tutorial when I wanted to make some Christmas cards last year and the Print Then Cut feature is one of my favorites when using the Cricut!

2. Customize an Umbrella with Mickey Balloon Shapes

I love this tutorial that uses vinyl to create your own Disney umbrella! The tutorial will teach you how to use shapes in Design Space to make the Mickey shaped balloons. I need to make this project to create a custom umbrella for my daughter – she would love it!

3. Make Your Own DIY Mirror Decals

Learn how to use vinyl and transfer tape in this tutorial. It would make a great project for teens to decorate a mirror for their room! You could also use the basics from this tutorial and the glass etching one (#8 project below) to create some beautiful etching on your mirrors.

4. How to Make Rainbow Wall Art using the Cricut Maker

This is a great tutorial for those who have the Cricut Maker since the Rainbow is made from 2.0mm chipboard. This would be fun to make for a baby’s room or even find other shapes to make your own wall wart. Remember, the thickness of the chipboard is not meant for the Explore style Cricuts, only for Cricut Makers. This thick chipboard will help to achieve the 3D look.

5. Make a Mama and Baby Elephant Thank You Card

Go back to the basics and use your Cricut to create a beautiful papercraft die-cut card. This card is intricate, but so easy to make when you use the Cricut. Don’t let the image fool you, it is seriously so quick and easy when you use the Cricut to make a card like this.

6. Make a Custom No-Sew Pillow

This project is very quick and easy to make your own custom pillow. I love the iron on in glitter that she uses and the look of the finished pillow. You could create this with your own words, phrases, or even images to make your own pillows.

7. Make Your Own Custom Banner for Scrapbook Layouts

I made a mini flag banner for a scrapbook layout using all free elements in Cricut Design Space. You could use this tutorial and increase the size of the banner flags to use them in your home.

8. How to Etch Glass Using Stencils Made by Your Cricut

This project does take a little more time, but it gives you an example at how making stencils on your Cricut. This would be perfect to make customized gift for newlyweds – custom champagne glasses would be adorable!

9. How to Use the Cricut and EasyPress with Iron On Material

If you have the Cricut EasyPress, then this tutorial has two projects on how to use the Cricut EasyPress to make a wood sign and a t-shirt. She shows you how to use the Cricut to cut out your iron-on material, then use the EasyPress to apply it to two different surfaces.

10. Make a Paper and Iron-On Wood Sign with Cricut and EasyPress

This project also uses the Cricut EasyPress, but I cannot get over how lovely the 3D flowers look when she adds them to the project. It takes this project up a notch and makes the flowers stand out.
