Crochet Chick Pattern Free Easter Crochet Granny Square (1)

This crochet chick pattern free granny square pattern is square #2 in my Easter spring Granny Square Blanket series. This adorable chick is peeking out from his egg as he is hatching. So cute!

If you missed the free crochet pattern for theBunny Granny Squareyou can check it on the blog. Square #3 my Lamb Square will be releasing in just a few days so be sure to check back for that one.

The great thing about the squares for this spring themed blanket is that they are so versatile. Mix and match the squares for your own perfect spring blanket. Use the chick square in different colors for someone who really loves baby chicks.

Crochet Chick pattern Free Granny Square Details

I am working this crochet chick pattern from the same base pattern as myChristmas crochet granny squares. All of the squares in this series work up to a large 14″ square. Perfect for pillows or to mix-and-match for an adorable Easter spring themed throw! These individual squares would also make wonderful wall hangings for your spring themed home decor.

My baby hatching baby chick square is utilizes color work. For the first portion of the pattern you will be working half of your dc circle in yellow yarn and half will be in white yarn. In the final few dc rounds of the chick you will also have a small portion of white at the top as well. This small white section helps create the top of the egg shell.

Once the square is complete you will work 2 sections of egg shell cracks – one small and one large. These egg shell cracks will be sewn to the top of the square. These egg cracks are simply a row of double crochet stitches with picots all worked in the same stitch to create a shell stitch. This easy stitch will be making an appearance in another square I am currently designing as well.

The chick’s eyes and beak are sewn on between the egg shell cracks so it looks like he is peeping out from his egg shell.

I am usingRed Heart With Love* yarn for my squares. I am also including Red Heart Super Saver in Pumpkin color for my orange. It is a bright and fun perfect orange yarn for the beak of my chick and will also be used in another square as well. Red Heart With Love yarn is a medium weight #4 acrylic worsted weight yarn. These granny squares would be a great way to use up your stash, too!
