Design Story and Inspiration for these crochet doll clothes

Morgan is definitely one of the more popular patterns on the site – and my most popular YouTube video! I’ve had so many requests for more clothes for her that I thought I would start with some accessories that would go with her dress.

She is wearing a new pair of shoes with ties and a cropped jacket! I hope you enjoy these new things to go with your Morgan doll as much as I loved creating them! More to come soon.

Here is the original Morgan pattern:

Yarn Options for Morgan’s Clothes

This project was crochet with the leftover cake of Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK Cake that I had left over from creating the original dress and boots.

What I love about the cake yarns is that I have plenty of colors to choose from with one skein! I’m also using Mandala from LB for another doll design and it’s working out really well!

Any DK yarn that gets gauge will work, and I’ve had many, many people make Morgan with different weight yarns. It’s fine to do this of course, just go with a hook that is one or two sizes less than the hook called for on the ball band so the stitches are tight and no filling shows through.

Crochet Doll Clothes Pattern Details

When making the clothes for your doll, you will want to use the same hook or possibly one size larger (especially in these small hooks that are only .25mm different). I made Morgan in a 3.25mm hook and these clothes are made with a 3.50mm.

Instead of the ties for the jacket, I also considered a hook and eye or even a tiny button. If you are making this for a very young child I would stay away from these and use the ties like I did, but for an older child they would love a simply fastener.

How to Customize the Clothes

Jacket: You can easily adjust the length of the sleeves for the jacket and make one with shorter sleeves and one long sleeves. I would recommend trying them on the doll to ensure proper sleeve length.

Shoes: These can be taller or shorter by adjusting the number of rounds worked even, and you could even make longer laces and tie them up her legs like a ballerina. Her original boots are shaped, but these are simple point shoes and great for beginners.

Jacket Sleeves

Join yarn at ch-1 space under armhole.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc 12 sts evenly around armhole.

Work even in the round (sc in each st) for as long as you desire the sleeves to be. My short sleeved jacket is 8 rounds and I would do 20 for long sleeves, just try it on your doll to see where you like it.

Repeat for second sleeve.

Round 1: 8 sc in magic ring. Pull tightly to close. Begin placing stitch marker in first st to keep track of rounds.

Work as many or as few rounds as you like.

Cut ties of contrasting color yarn and weave through top row of sts. Tie in front.
