We’re sharing a simple way to let someone know you care about them with a super cute DIY Valentine’s Mailbox!

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I can completely understand how easily the holiday can sneak up on you. Especially if you have a busy work, home, or family life.

Some of you might even be on the fence about celebrating even as you read this.

We try to live a “love in action” lifestyle where we honor and celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day, every day of the year.

And while we usually send the littles an extra special treat, take my parents (my first Valentine!) out to dinner, pick up something sweet for my besties and my rescue Piper, after that, we basically call it good to go.

Truthfully, we’ve been in and out of town so much lately I was this close to sitting Valentine’s Day out. But deep in my heart, I know it would totally regret not making more of an effort.

So, late last week I tried to think of something quick and easy to help mark the occasion. The minute I found this sweet wooden mailbox at Joann, I knew it would be the perfect way to keep things festive yet low-key.

DIY Valentine’s Mailbox Steps:

Gather your supplies and lay a tarp or drop cloth down to protect your work surface.

Paint your wooden mailbox any color you like and allow for plenty of drying time between each coat. We used 2 coats of Valspar’s First Light because we had it leftover from the One Room Challenge Guest Bedroom Makeover.

Next paint the mailbox flag and any additional embellishments your DIY Valentine’s Mailbox might have. We used DecoArt’s Glorious Gold from the Metallics Line on ours.

What we love about these Valentine mailboxes is that you can paint and decorate them any color your heart desires! The mailbox door opens wide enough to be able to slip letters inside.

You can also fit a medium-sized box like a jewelry box in there too.

The Valentine’s mailbox is also fairly slim so you can place it on a countertop, coffee bar, or even a loved one’s dresser or desk.

Bonus – the flag on this one works, which means your Valentine can easily see if they have a special surprise waiting on them!

Keep in mind, the paint might rub a bit as you lift the flag up and down though so be extra careful.
