Slip Knot | Use the crochet hook to draw the yarn through the loop and pull the loop until tight |
Chain(CH) | Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front. Pull the hook with the yarn, through the loop that is on your hook |
Single Crochet (SC) | Start with one loop on your hook Slide the hook in the chain stitch. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull the yarn through the chain stitch. You now have 2 loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook and draw it through both loops on the hook |
Increase Single Crochet (INC SC) | crochet additional single crochet in 1 stitch |
X inc SC | crochet additional single crochet for x-times. X can be any number defined in the pattern |
How to Increase The Single Crochet
To increase this stitch you need to make an additional single crochet stitch in the loop you already made this stitch.
In a crochet pattern you can read different types of increases e.g:
Starting Row: Start with a slip knot and chain the number of stitches you need for your pattern
Rows: Crochet the number of single crochet as needed in your pattern
3 SC in 1 – this means you have to make 3 single crochet stitches into 1 stitch
3 SC inc – means that you need to add a single crochet stitch in the loop you already made one and repeat this for 3 stitches. So you start with 3 single crochet stitches and after the increase, you have 6 single crochet stitches
The pattern tells you when to perform an increase for a stitch:
- At the start of the row
- In the middle
- At an interval or
- At the end of a row
- In the final stitch
Abbreviation Increase Single Crochet
In a pattern, the abbreviation used to describe an increase = INC. It describes the number of times you need to increase.
So when the pattern says 1 inc it means add 1 additional stitch in the same stitch.
When it says 3 inc it means that you need to increase 1 additional stitch in the next 3 stitches.
